This is a sign that your bananas have been exposed to moisture and, you can this “ripeness indicator” to judge how much moisture exposure the products gets. If colour change is occurring quickly, take extra steps to dry footwear before application and / or increase frequency of banana care steps. Colour change is caused by deposits of plant pigments and salts on the fabric that with moisture transfer. It is an aesthetic change and does not reduce the effectiveness of the product.

This product is made with a natural fibre fabric cotton banana “skin” outer. It is prone to discolouration over time from mildew, or mud. To avoid this, do not use with footwear that is contaminated with mildew or mud. Any discolouration caused is aesthetic and will not reduce the function of these inserts.

If these inserts don’t work it means they are saturated and need a full regeneration, following the banana care oven steps to fully regenerate, and then store in an airtight container till needed.

The natural fibre fabric cotton banana ‘skins’ may discolour with use as the fabric breaks down and activated charcoal shows through from behind. This is is the nature of these home compostable inserts, handle with care to reduce the chance of colour change.

These charcoal only deodorising inserts are not going to be effective for everyone. They are best used as a preventative to keep footwear odour free. For pre-existing extreme or ingrained odour these inserts may fail to effectively remove the odour. In these cases we suggest using our other inserts, Boot Bananas Original Shoe Deodorisers which are more effective for stubborn stenches first to bring odour under control. Keep onto these as preventive to use whist travelling.
